The other day, I went to San Francisco to attend the annual conference of INTA (International Trademark Association).

During the conference, I was able to have meetings and to exchange information with many patent attorneys and lawyers from different countries around the world.

The overseas market has increased its importance for many Japanese clients in recent years and I believe it is very beneficial to strengthen ties with patent offices and law firms from other countries in this kind of conference.
It goes without saying that actually knowing the person you are working with makes communication much easier in the day to day business.

The photo shows a grass field in the San Francisco Bay Area, which I happened to pass nearby.
It’s difficult to see from this small picture but you can see Alcatraz, the ex-prison which is now a sightseeing spot.

The day I took this was a clear day, but it was quite cold during the whole conference compared to Japan.
I had somehow imagined that California is always warm but I guess it depends on the region.
