Well done for winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nadeshiko Japan!

One morning soon after the Cup, players of Nadeshiko Japan who play for the team, INAC Kobe, appeared on a live show on a Kansai local television.

Before the Cup, Nadeshiko Japan was saying that their goal was to get a medal (i.e. to finish in the top three). I didn’t know how good they were, so I had doubts as to whether this was realistic or not.

I found out later that they finished in the top four at the Olympics, so it was only natural for them to aim for the top three. (Incidentally, the goal of Japan led by Coach Okada in last year’s World Cup was top four but they finished in the top 16.)

And Nadeshiko Japan achieved number one in the world. They had been preparing for years, working on where they needed to strengthen to produce results. It is truly amazing.

The final game was especially great. It told us about the importance of not giving up.

This year, the summer in Kyoto is hot, yet again.
