The other day, I received a notice of reasons for rejection for a certain patent application.

As I was reading the prior art document cited in the notice, I realized that the applicant’s address was
552 Nijoden-cho, Karasumadori Oike-agaru,
Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto.

That’s here, exactly where I am, right now!

It seems that the applicant, a company that started its business in Kyoto and now has the largest market share in the world in its field, was once headquartered at this place.

I had a look at their website and found an old photograph of this building. It’s dated November, 1983, which is 27 years ago.

Maybe we should also put up our corporate history on our website together with photographs in about 30 years time.

By the way, this building is now under renovation. I’m looking forward to finding out what it’s going to look like when it’s done.
