Every morning, I get off the bus at Shijo-Takakura or Karasuma and walk the rest of the trip to Karasuma-Oike where our office is.
I only have two more months till the end of my short-term assignment in Kyoto, so I try to take different routes for this short walk everyday, making my own personal sightseeing tours. This has turned out to be pretty interesting with lots of little discoveries.

This morning, I walked along Higashi-no-toin-dori to the office. I don’t normally do things just because I’m fascinated by a good smell, but I did today.

I think it was near Sanjo on Higashi-no-toin-dori when I noticed this incredibly lovely smell. I quickly looked around to see where it was coming from and saw a bakery. It smelt more delicious than anything I had smelt recently. So, I went in, feeling almost thrilled. And I couldn’t help saying to the young woman in the bakery in a rather excited tone, “Whoa, it smells great!” even though I don’t usually talk to people in shops like that. I must’ve surprised her with my excitement at such an hour.

And that’s why I ended up having breakfast twice this morning but it felt like a nice day today…I even received a decision of patent grant from the Japanese Patent Office.
