Masaharu KIZUMasaharu KIZU
Mr. Kizu holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Science from Kyoto University, where his research focused on artificial intelligence technologies. He was registered as a patent attorney in 2011 and qualified as an IP infringement litigator in 2014. He joined SOEI in 2014 after working at another law firm for several years.
His practice encompasses patent prosecution, appeals, and expert opinions in the fields of mechanical and electrical technologies, including optical devices, semiconductor devices, and automotive parts.
He is a member of the Japan Patent Attorneys Association. He has served as a delegate of SOEI to international intellectual property conferences such as the APAA, AIPPI, and INTA annual meetings.
He completed training programs in Washington, D.C. in 2015 and 2019. After passing the U.S. Patent Bar Exam in 2019, he passed the exam again and was registered as a U.S. Patent Agent (Limited Recognition) in 2026.
Mr. Kizu is also dedicated to IP education. In 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2023, he served as a patent-drafting instructor for the Master's course in Intellectual Property Law at Africa University and for the WIPO Patent Drafting Workshop, both in Zimbabwe.
Since 2025, he has been serving as the manager of SOEI's Honolulu office.
