2024年1月31日、欧州特許庁は値上げを含む庁費用改定を発表した。施行日は2024年4月1日である。

値上げ幅は5%に満たないものが多いが、維持年金の3年目及び4年目の値上げ幅はそれぞれ30.2%及び28.0％と大きいため、これらの費用を値上げ前に支払うことは費用を大きく節約できるといえる。また、EPC規則51条(3)により分割出願の維持年金は、分割出願の出願日ではなく原出願の出願日を基準に起算され、支払う必要がある。従って、分割出願において3年目及び4年目の維持年金を支払うことが必要となるような場合については、庁費用の値上げ前に分割出願をすることで費用を大きく節約できるといえる。

また、EPC規則51条(1)によれば、維持年金については3ヶ月前から納付することができる。例外としては、3年目の維持年金については6ヶ月前から納付することができる。したがって、納付期限を確認し、値上げ前に納付できるようであれば検討する価値はある。
